SIWIBA Postpone Activities Amidst Prime Minister Election

SIWIBA activities for 8th – 12th December 2014 has been postponed following advise from the Honiara City Council and the Rove Police HQ Commissioner’s Office.

This is due to the national election of the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, citing safety precaution for the SIWIBA members.

The Secretariat informed its members including the SIWIBA Board and were advised to defer dates to January 2015.

The news was well received by members who raised same concern and agreed that the SIWIBA Secretariat closely monitor the situation.

Staff of the Secretariat went straight into informing all its invited guests and partners on the postponement.

SIWIBA Coordinator Attends 2nd Pacific Women In Business Conference

The Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) was represented at the 2nd Pacific Women in Business Conference held November 26th – 28th at the Sheraton Fiji Resort on Denarau Island in Nadi, Fiji.

Newly appointed SIWIBA Coordinator, Nina Tuhaika attended the conference with SIWIBA Board member, Tele Bartlett (SICCI representative) that attracted more than 150 women representing business, government and community development from throughout the Pacific.

Set on the theme "Building Women Entrepreneurs — Building Nations", the conference set a platform to showcase and share business diversity, experiences and innovations of women entrepreneurs and their businesses.

This is the second PWIB conference, with the inaugural one held in 2012, and the objective was to get Pacific women in business together to share their experiences, network and explore business opportunities.

Signing of MOU Between Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock and SIWIBA

The Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock on November 2013.

Under the terms of the MOU, the Ministry of Agriculture will provide funding to assist SIWIBA members engage in agricultural business activities.

The assistance will focus mainly on capacity building in the form of trainings for women involved in piggery and poultry farming as well as ornamental and floral arts and design.

SIWIBA Receives SBD$3.2 Million from DFAT

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has funded the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) with a 3 years package worth SBD$3.2 million.

Yesterday was a very special day for SIWIBA’s staff and members since its establishment as the association received the fund and also launched their bi-monthly Mere’s Market.

Soltuna Supports Mere’s Market

Soltuna donated 10 cartons of its products toward the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association’s (SIWBA) Meres’ Market currently held at the Art Gallery.

SIWIBA’s Programs Officer and Meres’ Market Chairlady, Ms. Jillian Rathamana, said the support provided will be part of their upcoming activities.

Ms. Rathamana said the support from Soltuna shows cooperation between big cooperate companies and local women in the country who are doing small business.

Australia Announces Additional Funding for SIWIBA

Australia has reaffirmed its support for the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association, announcing further funding of more than SBD$3 million dollars for the organisation. The funding was announced by the Australian High Commissioner Andrew Byrne this morning at the Mere’s Market, held at the Honiara Art Gallery grounds.

High Commissioner Byrne said the Australian Government is happy to support SIWIBA and its work to empower the women of Solomon Islands.

“Australia is proud to be a supporter of the Mere’s Market. We congratulate SIWIBA and its members for the work they do to make this event happen,” he said.
