SIWIBA Happy with New Office Space

SOLOMON ISLANDS Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) is thrilled to have a new office space in Honiara. This followed the opening of SIWIBA's new office space at the Tongs Building at Point Cruz Thursday last week.

The opening of the office came following years of struggle that SIWIBA members have gone through to ensure they have an office in the centre of all the business happenings.

President of SIWIBA Mrs. Julie Gegeo Haro expressed that they (SIWIBA) are thrilled to have their office opened and to get their activities for 2012 carried out.

She acknowledged the Australian High Commissioner, Matt Anderson for the assistance rendered to SIWIBA.

She also acknowledged Australia High Commission's office for the trust bestowed upon them and believing that her executive can make something out of the assistance given to SIWIBA.

"We would also like to thank the Australian government through Ausaid's Pacific Leadership Program in which funding is made possible for our office and staff" the SIWIBA President said.

Mrs Haro said that the new office is going to be a networking and business development centre for Solomon Islands women who are engaged in businesses.

"We hope that this office will become a busy centre with lots of current and new members coming to learn about how SIWIBA can support them in their businesses," Mrs. Haro said.

She added SIWIBA has some very exciting ideas for 2012 and the coming years, now that they have an office established.

She said with the office in place, their staff we will now be able to turn these ideas into great programmes that will benefit all SIWIBA members.

"The reason we chose the Tongs Building was to make it easy for our members to come at any time and network with each other," Mrs. Haro said.

Mrs. Haro also encouraged other women to come forward and join SIWIBA for it has a lot in stock to help them in their businesses.

The opening of the office is also seen by SIWIBA as another success after the recent launching of its new website late last year.

The webpage includes retail details of over 60 SIWIBA's members and their businesses including the type of services their businesses provides.

It covers both the formal and the informal sector with an emphasis on small businesses at this stage.

SIWIBA was established in 2005 and currently has over 100 members and it is a voluntary nonprofit association made up of Solomon Islands women who are in businesses, with a mission to improve, develop and empower women's participation in the private sector.
