May 22 – 24 Mere’s Market

As it come every two months, this Mere’s Market again occurred for three days, 22nd – 24th May at the Art Gallery. SIWIBA Mere’s Market is a special event organized and aimed at providing the opportunity for its members to display or showcase their unique skills and products. It is also a time where members businesses are being promoted. Women came with their products and experience new things altogether; sharing, collaborating, networking and marketing. As most members were form the informal sector, this is a very good occasion to get their businesses promoted and marketable to the public and be able to empower themselves to another level.

There were 49 members that signed to participate in the event each from different categories namely floral/horticulture, lavalavas and clothes, handicrafts, ladies accessories, beauty therapy, food and others. There were programs organized which was highlighted on the three days. These are: health talk by representatives from the Diabetic department, facial therapy demonstration, cushion cover making demonstration, and a bridal show which bring crowds and interesting individuals to the market.

The women have enjoyed the three days at the market.

“This has not only given us the opportunity to make money but seeing our products and skills being recognized and promoted to the public is rewarding thing,” said Stephanie Eta, a member of SIWIBA.

The public was impressed on how it was being organized and what was being displayed. A couple of times, some expatriates and tourists came to view the products and buying them with admiration.

SIWIBA would like to acknowledge Pacific Leadership Program (PLP) for their continuous support in funding the activities and programs of the organization.

The next Mere’s Market will now be scheduled for four days starting from 31st July – 3rd August 2013. The market committee would like to encourage the continual support and effort of all the members in preparing for the next Mere’s Market.
