Second Mere's Market for 2014 a Success

The Mere’s Market is always an event for SIWIBA members to look forward to, due to its lively atmosphere and array of unique products on display.

Quality and style are usually the market’s going words.

But big is a word which best describes the market held from 31st July to 3rd August 2013.

That Mere’s Market will be remembered as one of the biggest markets ever held by SIWIBA.

Attracting a steady stream of visitors and shoppers from its opening day, the crowds kept the 71 SIWIBA participants busy all throughout the four-day event.

Speaking at the market’s launching ceremony, Vaela Devesi, guest speaker and Women Development Officer within the Ministry of Women, stressed the importance of the economic empowerment of women.

In her address to the SIWIBA members and invited guests, Mrs. Devesi spoke on the importance of empowering women and the vital role women can play in improving and raising the standards of living of their families and communities.

Her inspirational message seemed to stir the women as a spirit of enthusiasm was evident all through the event.

Both SIWIBA stall owners and organizers worked tirelessly to ensure that the market activities and products on display kept the crowds coming.

But not only were the women’s expectations matched; they were well exceeded as visitor numbers seemed implacable.

Many of them were hungry too, making the market’s food hut one of its most crammed areas.

From locals and expatriates to tourists, the queues seemed endless as dozens lined the food stalls hoping for a taste of the savory, mainly local cuisine on offer.
