Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) has appointed its new Coordinator. She is Ms. Nina Rachel Tuhaika.

Her four years with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) International Development project, the Solomon Islands Media Assistance Scheme (SOLMAS) is a high achievement for SIWIBA to have Ms. Tuhaika as its Coordinator.

Ms. Tuhaika said she was humbled to be offered the job not as employer but a person to help women.

She said her ambition is to work alongside local women with necessary programs to empower women in the country.

Ms. Tuhaika explained that her vision is to see more women have the confidence of participating in business, especially the private sector.

She said her target is to build a strong culture of women in business and in leadership which will bring value and respect to what our local women are doing – whether in formal or informal sector.

“It is of our best interest to make sure our women businesses are marketable beyond our shores,” Ms. Tuhaika added.

She said SIWIBA is looking ahead to establish a business development centre for SIWIBA members to have their space to meet with potential clients and display their products as well as strengthen and expand SIWIBA network with the government sectors and other business houses.

Ms. Tuhaika continued on to say that her office is also looking at establishing an online presence for SIWIBA as a starting point in establishing international link and recognition for our business women. This includes a website for SIWIBA that is currently under construction and will be launched soon.

She further stated that SIWIBA is expecting to expand its training opportunities for its business women including areas such as business development training, product development/marketing training, entrepreneurial skills training, all of which will assist women in moving from the informal to the formal business sector.

Ms. Tuhaika said capacity building for SIWIBA staff members as well as Board members is on the pipeline.

SIWIBA will celebrate its 10th anniversary in December and this is a milestone for the association, its members and this is a focus for the Secretariat.
