The Solomon Islands Women in Business Association held another workshop for the formal sector on the 20th June 2013. This workshop was held at the YWCA conference room with 13 participants.

Like the informal workshop, this was a need-analysis workshop where SIWIBA organized for members doing business in the formal sector to come together and share what economic issues, challenges, and other business matters have affected their businesses to grow and help recommend ways to address such pressing issues. These were being drawn into questionnaires that were given to analyses each needs and ideas on issues. With the small number of participants, the discussion was moreor less a round-table discussion, openly and freely.

“This workshop has given me a clear understanding on the key barriers that hinders some of our businesses to grow. It is good to have our ideas shared and with the commitment and struggles we faced in contributing to this economy, we urged the government to support us in one way or the other”, suggested Anne Maedia, a participant during the workshop.

On the workshop also, SIWBA invited Fatarina and Patricia from the Economic Department CBSI to present on the economic aspect of the country and businesses contribution to it. This has made the women understand importance of contributing to the economy and where they visualize there business position in the whole country. Another guest speaker was Dr. Vijaya Narayan from the Asia Development Bank, who share her experience as a business women and at the same time as a mother.

There were 91 members operating in the formal sector and 235 in the informal sector. SIWIBA will continue to empower women with trainings or workshop for its members depending on the outcome of the two workshops that was carried out.

SIWIBA would like to thank Pacific Leadership Program to fund the activities that SIWIBA offers for its members and their continuous support. SIWIBA would also like to thank the YWCA management for availing their conference room which made possible for the workshop to take place.
